Episode I – The Introduction of a New Resort

White Lotus Has Returned to Haunt Us. Now, this season, we’re at a posh Resort and Spa. The characters arrive much like they used to on THE LOVE BOAT tv series. There is the well heeled family, the slightly shady Entrepreneur, Girlfriends on Vacay, the Spa Director and the unique collection of significant others attached to their boyfriends. In fact, the very definition of “boyfriend” in the 21st century in this series is up for grabs.

But wait, there’s more. The owner of the Resort is an elegant elderly woman with a history. The stones and bridges over the waters of the spa are ancient in contrast to the modern upscale five star hotel design. The waters are clear but a bit murky. The large (scary) lizards skitter across the pathways and the monkeys are seen peering from the trees like screechy neighbors. Anything could happen. That’s what makes the show so intoxicating.

The Design and Style of WHITE LOTUS

The spa and resort mood might seem like an easy design proposition to the audience. But, resort clothes and interiors are carefully designed to create an atmosphere that begins in Episode I. The overall design concept is to translate the feeling of an exclusive paradise drenched in rich colors. The backdrop of tropical plants and vegetation transmits deep tones of green from the lightest to the darkest found in the corners of the various pools of water around the property. The clothes are part of an overall palette that will set us on our journey through the story using the natural vegetation as a backdrop. So, as the first groups of characters arrive some have dressed for their destination while others have brought the vacation inside their luggage. The clothes and the plot lines will be unfolding as these outfits emerge from their suitcases. This is all part of the fun, as the creator and producer, MIKE WHITE is someone who is sensitive to both mood, character and atmosphere defining the purpose of each scene. He is like a telegraph operator tapping on the lever, communicating to the audience just what his intentions are with the staccato beats of each moment. A lush menu of new delights will be our treat in this season and knowing Mr. White, he will not disappoint.
